The Under 17s finished the home and away season as League Champions and went into the Grand Final playing against Drouin with confidence of the win, however this is finals, and anything can happen.

The game was played at the new Lang Lang community and recreation precinct.

The team had played Drouin three times losing the first game (round three) 3-2, and then won (round seven) 3-1, and drew in (round 12) 2-2.

There were no guarantees how this game played on Sunday would pan out, however the Phillip Island Breakers started using the ball well and playing as a team.

With a couple of shots off target it was Anthony Petropoulos at the 9.2-minute mark that buried the ball into the net.

Drouin kept on fighting, however the Island defence in Cadel Tsioulakis, Jack Middleton, Josh Vojkovic, Bailey Leed and Angus Dempsey continually denied any form of attack.

For the next 20 minutes the ball moved quickly up and down the pitch.

Drouin were awarded a penalty from a very unlucky bounce and hand ball inside the box, however goalkeeper Justin Tran was totally switched on and denied the score with an amazing save.

Thirty-nine minutes into the game Nate Anderson received a lovely ball inside the 18 and drilled it into the net scoring the Breakers’ second goal.

The Breakers continued to dominate the play with our midfield run and passing.

Captain Xavier Godena Adam Dean, Dean Rizzo and Nate Anderson all played a solid game in the midfield, but it was Tate Russell’s dominance and solid body that really stood out. For this reason Tate was awarded the MVP for the day.

Michaela Marr, Dylan Gregory, Jad Ellaz and Balian Prendergast also pressured the Drouin defence up front.

At the 74th minute mark Xavier was running with the ball at great speed into the six-yard box beating the Drouin defence when he was legged from behind by Drouin’s defender Rinnan Trenton.

The ref didn’t hesitate in blowing the whistle and pointing to the penalty dot, also pulling out a yellow card for the Drouin player.

Xavier took the penalty and hit the ball with venom leaving the keeper no chance of saving the goal.

With the final whistle blown the Breakers won the Grand Final 3-0.

Well done ladies and gents on a fantastic win.

Best on ground Tate Russell, with a special mention to goalkeeper Justin Tran with his amazing saves and clean sheet, along with Xavier Godena and Anthony Petropoulos.

It was a fantastic performance by all, with everyone pitching in to get the win.

Goal scorers: Anthony Petropoulos, Nate Anderson and Xavier Godena one goal each.
