Every year Phillip Island Village School (PIVS) participates in the South Gippsland One Act Play Festival, a community theatre event in Foster.

Students in levels 2-6 choose to audition and spend five weeks practicing and refining their performance skills. The play was performed first for the school community and then at the Festival on August 27.

All interested students have a role; whether it be speaking or non-speaking parts, props, set design and construction or costuming.

This year’s play was written and directed by local Village High School student Aerin Sutherland, with production support from PIVS Mentors.

“Truly, Madly, Plants” focused on themes that had meaning for the PIVS students including environmental change, student empowerment and making a difference in the community.

The cast (Avalon, Claire, Cleo, Eli, Eve, Isla, Jakob, Leo, Louise, Olive, Ollie, Oscar, Rhian, and Riven) were thrilled to be part of the South Gippsland One Act Play Festival, together with other local schools and drama groups. The teamwork and support of the cast for each other throughout the festival and during the lead up was a highlight for everyone involved.

Several PIVS students received special achievement awards; Riven (Adjudicator's Award), Eli and Olive (Outstanding Achievement Awards), with many more also nominated for their hard work and great performances. The success of the production was truly a collaborative effort.

PIVS staff and students are keen to continue fostering the student-led passion for drama and performing arts in a variety of ways throughout the year.
