Local Rotary Clubs have band together to provide fresh drinking water in Timor-Leste.

In a landmark achievement for the community of Cailaco, Timor-Leste, the installation of a crucial safe water system has been successfully completed at the Salesian Sisters Orphanage and Primary School. Facilitated by Rotary Projects Timor-Leste and Disaster Aid Australia, this initiative is set to significantly benefit not only the orphanage and school but also the surrounding community.

This milestone was made possible through generous support and collaboration with South Coast Rotary Clubs, including the clubs of Phillip Island and San Remo, Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Leongatha, Korumburra and Foster. It marks a significant step forward in enhancing access to safe water across the region, ensuring over 18,000 individuals, including the residents of Cailaco, now have reliable access to clean water, thanks to the concerted efforts of local South Coast Rotary Clubs.

The Salesian Sisters, integral members of the renowned Don Bosco Schools network, play a pivotal role in Timor-Leste by providing education and opportunities to underprivileged youth. This initiative resonates deeply with their mission to empower young people through education and create pathways for a brighter future.

Working together with Disaster Aid Australia (DAA) plans are in place to continue their commitment through the Safe Water for Every Child projects in Bhutan, the Philippines and Timor-Leste in the upcoming Rotary Year. These initiatives, alongside humanitarian responses to natural disasters and other crisis', underscore Rotary's dedication to making a lasting global impact.

"We extend our deepest gratitude to all supporters, particularly Rotary clubs, whose unwavering dedication enables us to carry out this essential work and bring the magic of Rotary to communities worldwide," said  a spokesperson for DAA.

The completion of this project stands as a testament to the transformative power of collective action in addressing critical humanitarian needs.

South Coast Rotary Clubs will continue to work to sustain and expand these life-changing initiatives in the years ahead.
