Cr Rochelle Halstead was elected as Deputy Mayor, while Cr Michael Whelan secured a second term as Mayor. Both were elected unopposed.

Bass Coast Shire Cr Michael Whelan has been re-elected unopposed as mayor for a second year at today’s November council meeting.

Western Port Ward’s Cr Rochelle Halstead was elected unopposed as deputy mayor, replacing Cr Leticia Laing, from Bunurong Ward.

Cr Halstead, who lives in San Remo, thanked her fellow councillors for “placing their faith in my abilities”.

Cr Whelan said there was unfinished business in his role as mayor, particularly around advocacy for funding for major projects from government.

Cr Clare Le Serve nominated both the mayor and deputy, with no other nominations, with Cr David Rooks seconding the mayoral appointment and Cr Ronnie Bauer seconding the deputy role.
