Why was Western Port chosen as Victoria's turbine hub?
Environmental groups question why Western Port was chosen for a wind turbine construction hub, as it is one of only five Biosphere Reserves in Australia and part of UNESCO's World Network, in recognition of the international environmental significance of the area. It is also a Ramsar wetland of international importance, designated in 1982 to protect critical waterfowl habitats.
