The bowls club has a brand-new social space ready thanks to a Bendigo Bank grant.
Phillip Island Bowls Club (PIBC) now has a brand-new outdoor BBQ and social space ready for the community thanks to a successful Cowes, San Remo and Grantville Bendigo Bank grant worth almost $30,000.
The club applied for the grant in 2022 and received their “big cheque” at the official ceremony in Dalyston in September last year.
Works have now been completed and members of the community who wish to hire the facility and have a bowl and a BBQ can enjoy the stylish space immediately.
“Phillip Island Bowls Club wished to create an area for social and community gatherings outside of the club house environment. This outside area now provides excellent facilities for anyone needing a venue for their celebrations or events,” Chair Wayne Barr commented.
“This will be of great benefit to many others too, as the local schools will be able to rest in the shaded area in between the PE lessons of lawn bowls.”
In the past PIBC has been able to offer visitors a venue for 100 people. The new PIBC/Bendigo Bank BBQ and social space will allow greater numbers from community groups to be accommodated at the club in a comfortable area.
Chair of the Community Banks, Peter Paul, was happy the bank could help.
“This is the community’s bank. Thanks to the support of this wonderful community, we’ve been able to give $5 million back to locals since we began almost 20 years ago.
“The more people that support the local Community bank, the more we can give back in sponsorship and grants.”
Assistant Branch Manager Tanya Donnan commented, “We’re really proud that we can be open and available for the local Cowes and San Remo community 9.30am to 5pm, five days a week”.
“We encourage anyone interested in sponsorship or a grant for their group to pop in and have a chat in those times.”
