Island’s impressive finals run rolls on
The Island came out firing.
2nd Semi Final Seniors v Warragul
Phillip Island’s impressive finals run continued on Sunday, producing another strong team performance to defeat Warragul Industrials by 43 points and move one step closer to a Grand Final berth.
The Island came out firing, with Ollie Duggan getting his side off to the perfect start by kicking the opening three goals of the game.
Phillip Island controlled much of the play in the first quarter and created plenty of opportunities, although some inaccurate kicking saw them finish the term with 3.6 to Warragul’s 1.0.
The Bulldogs continued to build in the second quarter, playing some excellent team football and making the most of their opportunities.
They added another four goals to take a commanding 53–13 lead into half-time.
Warragul weren’t going to go away without a fight and lifted after the main break.
Phillip Island quietened off during the third term as Warragul worked their way back into the contest, reducing the margin to 20 points at three-quarter time.
With the game still there to be won, the Island responded exactly as they needed to in the final quarter.
Max Walton was hugely influential, kicking five goals, helping lift his side as Phillip Island regained control of the match.
The Bulldogs finished strongly, piling on 6.6 in the final term while restricting Warragul to 2.1, running away with an impressive victory.
It was another terrific all-round team effort from an Island side that has hit form at exactly the right time of the season.
Their winning streak continues, with the confidence and belief within the group growing each week.
Phillip Island will now meet Inverloch-Kongwak in the Preliminary Final this Saturday at Cora Lynn, with one more win needed to book their place in the Grand Final.
