AusNet said the big battery was designed was to secure energy supply in Phillip Island during peak summer periods and during major events, as the population of Phillip Island more than quadruples over summer, putting a strain on the local electricity grid. “It cannot support the whole island when storm damage impacts the connection to the main grid or if there is damage locally."
