Mason Paxton with the ball, closely followed by Harvey Patterson, Dexter Goodall and Jarrah Rutherford in the U12 Blue match on Sunday.

Anticipation was high as Phillip Island U12 Blue took on the top team Inverloch.

Coach Mick’s pre-game rev-up encouraged the team to go out there and give it their all and never give up, and this was most definitely taken literally.

With Ryder V captaining the team the pressure was strong from the beginning.

Jarrah, Roy and Max provided lots of pressure through the centre.

The ball continued to push to Phillip Islands forward and an epic mark by Will saw him kick the Island’s first goal.

The ball continued to land in our forward line thanks to the hard work of Harvey P, attacking the ball with his all and pushing it back to the Doggies’ end. Mason was waiting and kicked another to see the end of the first quarter score Phillip Island 2 to Inverloch 0.

Coach Mick at quarter time reminded the players to know where their players were and continue to look for space.

The rain started to fall but this did not dampen the Island’s spirits.

Ryder V controlled the ball through the mid with Maxin continuing to show toughness and strength in the pack. Kai D’s running stamina keep the ball in our hands with Jarrah marking strongly, scoring another behind.

Dexter’s hard work in the ruck and setting the play up beautifully with constant pressure the Island were like dogs to the bone – just relentless in the attack.

The fight for the top spot was now in their sights and the team worked together to keep the scoring coming.

Sam K consistently worked hard to support a sensational passage of play which saw Will P kick his second, leaving Inverloch unable to score.

Half time score was Phillip Island 19 to Inverloch 0.

The team were encouraged to keep the foot on the pedal and keep the intensity up.

Balin and Sam C lead the way, continuing pressure on the wing sending the ball back numerous times.

Inverloch’s pressure in our forward made it hard to get it through to score keeping both teams from scoring in the third quarter.

Inverloch finally on the board at the beginning of the fourth kicking a behind, followed not long after by another goal.

Our captain Ryder stepped up and answered with a goal.

Sonny worked hard in the forward and assisted Ryder to kick again for a behind.

Bowie had a great game, giving pressure and Zoe’s second efforts contributed to clearing the ball.

The Phillip Island Doggies kept the pressure and played as a team giving them a solid win against the top team 27 to 7.

Awards: Jarrah, Dexter, Maxin, Mason and Bowie.
