A grass fire broke out near Harbison Road around 11.30am today (Sunday January 18).

Firefighters responded with the CFA confirming 12 units are currently on scene, alongside Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police.

"Upon arrival crews found an active grass and scrub fire spreading towards the Phillip Island Nature Park," a State Control Centre spokesperson said.

"Aircraft have been called in to support ground crews."

The fire is currently approximately 1.5 hectares in size.

CFA said "An advice – Stay Informed" message has been issued for Rhyll, stating that smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.

"There is currently no threat to residents, however locals should stay informed and monitor conditions."

The incident is not yet under control and crews remain on scene.

Police are controlling traffic at the Phillip Island Road and Ventnor Road roundabout and the roundabout at Cowes-Rhyll Road and Coghlan Road.
