Cape Woolamai has been named a finalist in the 2026 Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, representing Bass Coast in the small tourism town category.
Competing against other small towns across Victoria with populations between 1500 and 5000 people, Bass Coast Shire Council is calling on locals, visitors and fans of the area to vote one Cape Woolamai to help the town claim the top honours.
The awards, co-ordinated by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), recognise destinations that deliver outstanding visitor experiences and demonstrate a strong commitment to tourism.
Cape Woolamai is recognised for its dramatic granite cliffs, expansive surf beaches and relaxed coastal village atmosphere - just 90 minutes from Melbourne, yet a world away in pace.
A shire spokesperson said finalists were selected by an independent panel of tourism industry experts, based on a submission including editorial storytelling, a curated visitor itinerary and a feature video showcasing the town's unique experiences, landscapes and local businesses.
Cape Woolamai's submission highlights its reputation as a place "where the ocean resets you" - a destination shaped by tides, nature and movement, the spokesperson said.
Home to the iconic Pinnacles and one of Victoria's most spectacular coastal walks, the area also forms part of Victoria's only National Surfing Reserve, recognised for both its world-class surf breaks and cultural significance.
Visitors are drawn to Cape Woolamai for its balance of outdoor adventure and genuine relaxation - from coastal walks, surfing and kayaking to wildlife experiences, including the return of short-tailed shearwaters to Phillip Island each year and seasonal whale sightings along the coastline.
