A group of friends is stepping out to raise money for dementia research.
Scott Murphy, who owns a holiday house in Ventnor, has assembled a group of friends to walk around Phillip Island on April 20, raising money for The Florey research centre.
Organised with his friend David, and called "Scott and David WTF" (walk to fight dementia), it's becoming an annual tradition, with many friends joining in on the day.
Last year's walk was from Mt Hotham to Falls Creek, where it snowed or rained all the way.
Scott's hoping this year's 28km Phillip Island walk will be less inhospitable.
"My life has been directly and sadly affected by a form of dementia – as has the life of my good friend, David – so rather than whinge about it we decided to do something positive," Scott said.
"We both love hiking/walking so, for the second year we're going on a long walk and hoping to raise money which will go to scientists who are trying to solve many brain issues including the various forms of dementia."
On April 20, between 10am and approximately 5pm, a group of friends are walking around Phillip Island, taking in beaches, reserves and wetlands.
"My target is to raise $1000 but of course, the more the better," he said.
"There's 21 of us walking so that could equate to $21,000+."
Dementia impacts around 25 per cent of all Australians, so Scott is hoping others will sponsor the walk to help raise money for research.
