GP throws its support behind PICAL

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation has announced the Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL) as the Official Charity Partner for the Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2022.

The announcement comes after several turbulent years for PICAL during the pandemic, and as it prepares for a move to new premises in Warley Avenue later in the year.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation General Manager Corporate Affairs and Communications, Haydn Lane said they were thrilled to partner with PICAL for this year’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

“The Phillip Island community has been challenged the last few years and this partnership will help PICAL to raise additional awareness and donations to support its crucial work throughout the Bass Coast.”

PICAL Chair Jeff Floyd welcomed the news.

“To be chosen by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to be the Official Charity Partner for the Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2022 is incredibly exciting for PICAL,” Mr Floyd said.

“PICAL and our local community have done it tough over Covid and here is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our work and raise much needed funds for our community programs.”

PICAL provides a wide range of vital community services and support programs, including the Phil Dixon Emergency Food Relief program, a community garden, Centrelink service, along with training and education. It also supports vital community engagement and social-enterprise groups, such as Women Connect and Boomerang Bags.

Mr Lane said the partnership will see PICAL further increase awareness of its community programs and raise crucial donations at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit across the three days of the event.

PICAL will also receive a range of donations following the event, such as food for its Emergency Food Relief Pantry and coffee grounds to provide fertilizer for its community garden.

The Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2022 will return to Phillip Island from Friday, October 14 to Sunday October 16. Come Sunday’s feature race, more than 1800 days will have passed since the last Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in 2019.

In 2022, there’s plenty to be excited about with Aussies Jack Miller and Remy Gardener set to compete on the MotoGP™ grid and Australia will witness the local debut of compatriot Joel Kelso in Moto3™. On top of that, the national Superbike class will return alongside the Oceania Junior Championship – which will mark its first inclusion at the event.
