The mayor, deputy mayor and CEO took council's advocacy priorities to ministers and shadow ministers in an effort to secure commitments ahead of the 2026 state election.
Council met with the office of the Premier, the Deputy Opposition Leader, and ministers on May 12.
Key focus areas included:
*Commitment to support Phillip Island and Bass Coast in the wake of the MotoGP leaving the island in 2027.
*Co-contribution from all levels of government to renew Wonthaggi's ageing pool.
*Coordinated state-wide coastal inundation and erosion control, in the form of an overlay similar to the Bushfire Management Overlay.
*Funding for the first stages of a community sport and recreation hub in Cowes.
*Funding for the former Wonthaggi Secondary College site.
*Protection of Westernport Woodlands including an Environmental Significance Overlay.
