School spirit shines bright, even without lights

San Remo Primary School's Bush Dance went ahead in the dark on Wednesday June 25 - and what a night it was.

Despite a power outage, the school's spirit could not be dimmed.

"Students had spent the term practicing a variety of bush dances under the guidance of their dedicated Music Teacher, Ian Chambers," said Principal Karen Bowker.

"Ian has always stood up to challenges of performances at the school for years now. With months of effort behind them, the children were determined to showcase their skills and enjoy a night of fun, laughter, and community."

Parents and families gathered in support, lighting the night with torches, spotlights, phones and smiles.

"The energy was infectious, as the sound of music, laughter, and stomping feet filled the air. It's a night that will be remembered not for the darkness, but for the joy that lit up the San Remo Recreation Centre," Ms Bowker said.

"A big thank you goes out to the families who rallied together, bringing lights from home and helping ensure the show could go on. Their generosity and quick thinking proved just how powerful a close-knit community can be - especially when it comes to supporting those who matter most in a primary school: our students.

"The resilience shown by everyone involved was truly inspiring and turned a challenging situation into a heartwarming celebration of togetherness."

Ms Bowker also thanked the School Council for organising the food and drinks that kept everyone energised throughout the evening.

"We also extend our gratitude to San Remo Asian Grocer for generously donating the delicious dim sims!

"It was a classic night that will surely go down in the history books of our little school and our students' memories."
