Darren Mort, a Family Court Barrister, actor, playwright, film producer and author has a new film project underway.

Darren is a co-founder of To Be Loved Network (www.tobeloved.org.au) which was formed to help children navigate family violence and parental separation. His aim is to also give children a voice involved in the Family Court or Federal Circuit Court.

As part of this, in 2019 Darren made a film called "Tommy" which charts the story of a young boy trying to navigate his parents' fiery separation.

The film was shot on Phillip Island, and now Darren returns to the island for his latest film.

This second film, "Millie" is aimed at helping those involved with working in the family court system, as well as parents and children cope with the process and trauma that can occur.

Filmed on Phillip Island, it has already attracted support from a range of investors, but Darren and Executive Producer Lois Gaskin are hoping some local businesses will come on board to support the venture.

They also hope to launch the film with a special opening at Berninneit later this year.

Lois believes the film will follow in the successful footsteps of "Tommy" which has been internationally acclaimed.

"It is now embedded in the USA Court System, we have proof in the pudding," Lois said.

"Millie will form a formidable educative tool and bring to the forefront how we can do things better to protect children from conflict and abuse."

Lois said there was an urgent need for these type of resources in the community and films and books from the To Be Loved Network are used across Australia by organisations such as CatholicCare, Berry Street (Tas) and Family Law Mediators and psychologists.

"The feedback has been incredible and makes the production of these resources so worthwhile.

"In the USA, Family Courts Judges across America in all States are now able to order parents, to watch "Tommy" to cause better parenting behaviour and co-operation."

Millie

The latest film follows Millie who unearths the boundless power of her imagination amid her parents' separation.

The movie brings back together the creative team of Darren Mort, Deb Morgan and Jane Liscombe (Creative Producers) and Pedro Greif (Director)

The film is based on an original concept by Darren, drawing from his first-hand interactions with the impact of parental separation on children.
