Flushed clear in Cowes
A hydrant in Dunsmore Road was flushed by Westernport Water, as part of routine shutdown on Thursday, July 13.
On July 13, passing motorists reported water gushing from hydrants along Chapel Street and Dunsmore Road in Cowes on July 13, and cascading down the gutters.
The watery display was part of a planned routine shutdown from 9am – 2pm by Westernport Water.
The work, which impacted about 60 customers, including repairing a stop value and installing a new one.
“Flushing from the hydrants is done as part of the process to bring a water main back online, remove aeration and ensure quality water is provided to customers,” explained a Westernport Water spokesperson.
“The purpose of these works was to reduce the potential for any future disruptions to our customers in case we need to conduct repairs in the area.
“The water observed flowing from the hydrants was a result of our crews flushing the water main.”
