Phillip Island vets find new base in Wonthaggi
Dr Nikki Dhar and Dr Lorraine Williams have opened Bass Coast Family Vet at Shop 8/1 Billson Street, Wonthaggi with bookings opening on October 26.

Former vets based on Phillip Island have found a new home, opening an independent, family-owned veterinary clinic in Wonthaggi on Wednesday November 4.

Dr Nikki Dhar and Dr Lorraine Williams have joined with Nikki's husband, Dr Mic Dhar, to open Bass Coast Family Vet at Shop 8/1 Billson Street, with bookings open from October 26.

For Dr Nikki Dhar, the new clinic continues her commitment to caring for cats and dogs across the Bass Coast since 2003.

"I've loved living and working locally for many years and look forward to continuing to support local pets and their families," she said.

"We all have a close connection to community."

Dr Lorraine Williams lives in Cape Woolamai.

"My family have long been a part of Phillip Island and that started my journey in the area.

"I moved here permanently three years ago and have enjoyed my time practicing on the island.

"The pets I've met are amazing, as are their owners," she said.

"The opportunity to now be part of our new practice is very exciting."

Both Dr Nikki and Dr Lorraine have a strong interest in small animal veterinary care.

Both are passionate about caring for pets at all life stages, working with owners to optimise their pet's health, and investigating cases where your loved pet is suddenly unwell.

Dr Mic provides care outside the clinic to farm animals across the Bass Coast.
"We will be treating all creatures great and small," Dr Lorraine said.

The clinic covers companion animals ranging from dogs and cats to rabbits, birds and reptiles and other 'exotic' pets.

Consultations and investigations will be supported by an in-house laboratory, ultrasound and X-ray equipment, alongside surgical facilities.

Six support staff are joining the vet team, including four qualified veterinary nurses who each have more than a decade of experience working in the region. There will also be two junior staff training to become veterinary nurses.

The practice will work with visiting specialists, including an orthopaedic surgeon and an eye specialist.

The clinic's work will extend beyond its Billson Street premises with on-farm services for cattle, sheep and goats across Bass Coast and South Gippsland.

After-hours care will be available for companion animals until 10pm, with a 24-hour service for farm animals.

Dr Nikki said she hopes clients will feel connected to the independent, family-owned practice caring for their pet at all stages throughout their life.

Bookings officially opened on October 26.
