Free marine talk in Cowes

Want to know how to protect Phillip Island’s marine environment and about the upcoming fish count?

Then a free event marine education event on Sunday October 2, 2-3pm at St Philip’s church hall, Thompson Avenue, Cowes, will tell you how.

The event, organised by the Phillip Island Conservation Society, will include guest speakers from the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA) and island local and reef watch coordinator Kade Mills.

The topic is “looking below the blue horizon – Marine education, experiences and conservation at play in the VNPA”.

PICS president Jeff Nottle said the VNPA’s marine team will outline the underwater world surrounding the island and explain how to get involved in protecting it.

“They will also talk about the proposed Great Victorian Fish Counts on Phillip Island in December this year,” Jeff said. “It’s a presentation for people who are keen to learn more about the local marine life and issues they face.”

He said there will also be an update of plans to seek permanent legal protections for Western Port.
