Don't miss the Friends of Churchill Island Society (FOCIS) Churchill Island poetry/short story event, on Saturday May 9, 3.30pm in the Churchill Island shearing shed.

Do you love Churchill Island? Do you enjoy penning poems, or the challenge of writing 50 - 100-word short stories?

Combine your love of the island and your writing ability at the Friends of Churchill Island Society (FOCIS) Churchill Island poetry/short story event, on Saturday May 9, starting 3.30pm in the Churchill Island shearing shed.

FOCIS already have some keen members and some local school children working on poems to present.

Whether you are a beginner, experienced or at any stage of your writing journey, all are welcome!

Anything about Churchill Island, and aimed at a general audience, is acceptable. Any genre, type of poem or short story, on any theme or topic - it just needs to be in some way about Churchill Island.

If you don't want to read yourself, you can have a friend read, or FOCIS can provide a reader for you. Performance poets also welcome.

The poetry event is free, but you will need to pay the usual entry to Churchill Island.

FOCIS members can present their current membership card for free entry.

BYO nibbles and drink, or purchase at the Churchill Island cafe before 4pm.

The event will finish at approximately 4pm. Seating is tiered bench seating in the shearing shed, so BYO cushion if you need a soft seat.

Please advise the organisers if you have special seating requirements.

If you would like to present a poem or super-short story, contact secretary Christine Grayden, so she can include you on the schedule.

Email: secretary@focis.org.au or call 0400 900 612.

Please leave a message and Christine will get back to you.
