Funding for tireless wildlife carer

The invaluable and tireless work of a wildlife carer, Colleen Gilbee has been recognised through the Victorian Government’s Wildlife Rehabilitator Grants.

Colleen Gilbee runs The Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Shelter Bass Coast servicing the San Remo and Phillip Island area and has been awarded a grant of $2,997.59.

State MP for Bass, Jordan Crugnale announced the funding earlier this month, and presented Colleen with a “Community Gem” award for her wildlife work.

“The Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitate Shelter does an amazing job in protecting our local wildlife,” Ms Crugnale said.

“Ms Gilbee has been doing this rescue work for over 20 years which is a testament to her dedication and care for animals, their wellbeing and survival.”

Funding from the Wildlife Rehabilitator Grants program supports authorised wildlife shelter operators, foster carers and key wildlife organisations and can be used for a variety of purposes including training, equipment, cages, enclosures, food, petrol, medical supplies and other similar purposes.

Ms Crugnale said she also wanted to acknowledge the work for Wildlife Victoria.

“They are always looking for volunteers in rescue and transport, foster carers and shelters and education.

“Bass Coast have only a few carers and very few rescue volunteers.”
