Get ready for the whales
There is just over a week to go until this year’s Island Whale Festival begins.
The festival takes place on Friday June 30, Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2.
This year’s program is packed with activities and events across the weekend with the Festival Hub located at St Philip’s Church Hall and grounds in Cowes.
Hear performances from local artists on the Wildlife Coast Cruises stage at the Hub and head out to Woolamai Beach SLSC to the home of the Dolphin Research Institute and Two Bays Whale Project.
Visit the Pop-Up Art show at the Nobbies to view some beautiful local art while searching for whales and be sure to book in to hear some fascinating talks and presentations from marine mammal experts at the Festival Hub.
The festival is excited to be part of an Eco Arts Collaboration with For Our Future presenting local community artists Camille Monet and Helen Matthews who will create an interactive whale art piece and a whale crown creation workshop.
Traditional custodian and local artist Uncle Steve Parker will also be holding a beautiful Whale Blessing Ceremony on Saturday on the Cowes Foreshore.
Be sure to book your tickets to get your groove on at the Silent Disco and also for the Ocean Film Festival – a stunning collection of short films from around the world with three screenings at the Black
Box theatre at Newhaven College.
Other fun activities include face painting, a virtual reality experience on the Southern Ocean Reef, recycled plastics workshops, photography workshop, eco beach tours, paint your own whale cookie, sip and paint a whale, ceramic and plaster painting, and lots of art and craft activities.
Program information is available at islandwhales.com.au and bookings are recommended as sessions are filling up quickly!
