Getting more local food to local people - Bass Coast Landcare Network

**** UPDATE - Unfortunately due to low numbers this event has been postponed - we will update you with new dates for 2022 ****

Are you a local grower, producer of food related items, distributor, veg box scheme host, or just interested in buying more of your food locally?

If so, Bass Coast Landcare Network needs you.

After months of working behind the scenes, BCLN is hosting a Community visioning session – “Getting more local food to local people” on Saturday, November 20 from 2pm –4pm.

The session is at the Community Hall in Bass, 2 – 4 Bass School Road and bookings are now open.

For those that can’t make the in-person session, there will be a similar session run online on Thursday, November 25 from 7pm – 830pm.

“We want to hear from you about our local food system, what you think is working, what is not working,” said Lisa Wangman from BLCN.

“What you would like to see happening and what are some of the ways we can work together to make that happen?

“We all eat food and reducing food miles and supporting local food networks is one way to increase our resilience as a community and reduce our emissions.”

The session will be hosted by the current Steering group of the Bass Coast Food Collective, a consortium of local organisations, growers and passionate people, who would like to see better systems in place.

The group put an application into council to help put together a Business case for the Collective and find better ways to get local food to local people.

Meet other local growers, increase your networks, create new connections, find out new places to get local food from, discuss challenges and opportunities and put forward your views in this facilitated session.

There will also be an opportunity to talk in small groups to brainstorm ideas.

The session will be facilitated by Naomi Coleman, Convenor of Bass Coast Climate action network, with assistance from Lisa Wangman and Michael Nugent of Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre at Mitchell House.

These are free sessions however bookings are essential.

“If you can, please bring along a little something to share for afternoon tea at the live session.

”We would love to hear from you,” Lisa said.
