Girls Shield Day
Last weekend, the U14 island girls competed in the league's first Southern Gippsland Girls Shield Day.

On Sunday, May 19, the U14 girls' football team competed in the league's first Southern Gippsland Girls Shield Day, hosted by the Leongatha Football Club.

Coaches and club officials designed the day to give the female teams more game opportunities throughout their season, along with further cementing their deserved place within the football community.

Each team played against the other in what proved to be a ripper day of continuous flowing football.

Phillip Island kicked off the day against Leongatha, in which the island girls took their first ever victory.

The next two games against Dalyston and Inverloch just got away from the island girls, they kept scores to a minimum and showed a large amount of improvement on the ground.

Following on, the girls took part in the organised skills competitions, consisting of a ground ball relay race, a goal kicking competition and a popular specky competition. This led the island to grab some extra points to add to their shield tally.

As the day wrapped, the results were announced and Dalyston took home first place along with this season's shield.

The club thanks everyone involved who assisted in getting this day off the ground.
