Great start to junior cricket season
“Baby Sharks” to take to the field for their first game of the season.

After a well organised and structured preseason the time had come for the “Baby Sharks” to take to the field for their first game of the season.
Twelve of the boys playing their very first “real game of cricket” so nerves were evident as they arrived. This was quickly put behind them as our warm up B-grade Captain and Transition Squad
Coach, Steve “Macca” McIntyre, put the kids minds at ease with some warm up drills and wise words.
With 15 available players and Bass being a bit short it was decided to even up the teams, a big shout out to Ryan Hughes, Arch Cox, Flynn Deng and Jai Larcombe who went across and played for
Bass, all boys showing great skills with bat and ball and more importantly sportsmanship!
We opened the bowling with Archie Williams and Cub Cantwell, both first gamers who showed they will be great little cricketers for years to come.
Captain for the week Arch Cameron lead by example along with Hazza Bentley, Ollie Parsons and Zac Hughes all who are our experienced players and it showed with their great talk and encouragement to the younger boys.
Our fielding was a real highlight with all the boys showing great endeavour and plenty of nice returns to our keepers Zac and Harry which was noticed by the crowd in attendance.
Some great bowling from Jacko Allan, Sai Sadhubugga, Bryce Lawrence, and Bud Marshall kept the Bass batsman on their toes.
A special mention to our umpire, Andy O’Brien, who was helping encourage the kids each and every ball and was even heard saying “I would pay to come and watch this”.
After a short drink break coaches Tarryn Allan and Luke Marshall got the sharks padded up and ready to bat, with Ollie and skipper Arch taking the shine off the new ball with ease.
Some great running between the wickets from speedsters Bryce, Zac, Koby and Cub was one of the highlights of our batting innings.
Running was not required from Arch Williams with a total of five fours hit from his innings.
A big thanks to all the club members, parents and kids for making the season start possible in these different times and we look forward to a fun season for the under 12 Baby Sharks!

On a wet and rainy Saturday morning in Inverloch, the U14 Sharks lined up to face Inverloch.
Sad news came through that Sienna McMillan was injured and, in her place, came Heath Womersley. The Sharks lost the toss and Inverloch elected to bat.
George McCausland and Sam Bennett opened the bowling with Sam bowling the opening batter in the 4th over.

Another wicket fell as Jake Hughes took a beautiful catch off the bowling of Thomas McMillan.
The train of wickets didn’t end there with Jake Hughes getting a run out.
However, the Sharks weren’t able to get any more wickets in the game even though a great, late spell from Xavier Godena, Harry Arceo and Drew Fusinato came close to getting some.
Inverloch finished the innings on 80 runs.
A steady start in the batting from Heath Womersley and Connor McMillan ended when Heath was stumped on 16 runs.
The two brothers (Connor and Thomas McMillan) batted well together until Thomas was caught on seven runs.
Still needing 36 runs to win, George McCausland and Connor McMillan batted well until a mix-up in the calling between the wicket occurred and Connor was run out after a superb innings of 19 runs fell to an end.
Batting debutant Justin Tran strode out to the crease with confidence and hit key runs to keep the score ticking.
George McCausland retired in the 18th over after scoring 25* with the Sharks needing a run to win. Sam Bennett hit the winning runs on his first ball.
Despite the game already over Tyler Duell displayed excellent batting.
A great win for the Sharks as they take on Koonwarra next week.

Faced with a bye, members of the team had a net session at Cowes, on Saturday morning.
This proved to be a warmup for many of the players who had also been selected to play seniors in the afternoon.
Coach Dave Womersley worked individually with the bowlers to develop their skills and to finetune the way they bowl as an attacking unit.
Zac Walker has responded well to the encouragement he has received and proves to be a very promising pace bowler for the club, at both U16 and senior levels.
Overall, the team is practising hard and many of the players are showing good promise.
They are hopeful of a particularly good season in 2020-21.
