Get a new start with Island Healing

On January 14, Island Healing in Newhaven is throwing open the doors of its Wellbeing Studio and holding a special community open day.

The timing is perfect for everyone wanting to kick off the new year with a healthy start, those hoping to shake off the festive season indulgences, or looking for a way to balance their lives.

The open day includes free classes in yoga, Pilates, meditation and fitness, giving a taste of everything on offer at the studio.

Owner Jessie Thalas said most people know Island Healing provides massage and therapy services, but many would not be aware of the range of classes at the studio.

“I describe the studio as a place of wellbeing,” said Jessie.

“It’s a place where people can come and take care of themselves in a safe space.

“People know we do massage, but they might not think of us as a studio for movement and the mind.”

The open day includes free classes, great giveaways and a meet and greet with Island Healing staff, which includes Jessie, Dee Howard, Dominique Salerno, Annaliece Simonis, Sarah Jury, Chloe Smith and Cassie Craddock.

“We are really proud of our teachers and they are very good at what they do,” said Jessie.

“They have a wealth of knowledge.

“We know fitness can be daunting for some people and intimidation is a very real thing. People can be hesitant to get in and get started.

“But this is an opportunity to come and have a look at what we’re about.

“I say to people, you never know if you don’t try, and we’re here to hold your hand through it and help you get whatever it is you need out of your movement regime.”

The studio offers yoga – flow and slow-flow, with classes suited for all levels of experience.

It also runs Mat and Barre Pilates, as well as meditation and fitness classes.

“We don’t expect you to do anything your body doesn’t feel right doing. We can modify classes for you.

“A good trainer/coach ensures you get what you need from the class.”

Classes can be paid casually, or a 10-class pass and coming soon, membership packages.

“A strong value of ours is making movement inclusive,” Jessie stressed.

“Price shouldn’t stop you from moving your body, and we don’t want people not to come because the prices are too high.

“We know the benefits of movement for people’s lives and we’re here to facilitate that.”

The open day in January gives people the chance to give those “get healthy” new year’s resolutions a workout.

“It’s a great time to start new things,” Jessie said.

“A lot of people like a fresh start for the new year, so one of our classes could be the ideal thing to implement for 2023.

“Come and give it a try and see if you can incorporate some of our movement into your weekly routine.”

Island Healing is here to take care of your body, in all different aspects.

As well as the classes at the Wellbeing Studio, other services include massage, myotherapy, infra-red sauna, Sound Therapy, Reiki, Counselling, Mizan Therapy and Myotherapy.

The Wellbeing Studio is also available for hire by private practitioners and community groups.
