The infamous Exeloo on the corner of Thompson Avenue and Chapel Street in Cowes is no more!
It was quietly removed from its prime position on Monday, and unceremoniously carted to the Grantville tip.
Installation of the facility by the Bass Coast Council on the busiest intersection in Cowes, with the door facing out on to the street, caused community uproar back in 2011.
It was out of order more often than not; and while 180-degree views are highly desirable in many instances, they are not when ensconced on a toilet, looking out on to a busy street.
One unfortunate individual’s worst nightmare unfolded in the Exeloo’s first week of operation when the toilet door malfunctioned.
That case was not an isolated one.

Former Council Infrastructure and Maintenance Manager on Phillip Island Clive Grey happened to be passing by when the Exeloo was hauled away on Monday.
“Good riddance” was his fervent comment.
“That facility was an absolute nightmare to maintain from day one. It was nothing but trouble, always blocked, breaking down and left in appalling condition at times.”
Others in the street commented that it would not be missed.
