Hope for the planet, at World Vision book launch
Phillip Island World Vision Club is holding an afternoon tea and book launch at the Newhaven Yacht Squadron on June 17.
The special event, from 2pm is to launch “The Forest Underground: Hope for a Planet in Crisis” by world-renowned agronomist Tony Rinaudo.
Tony will be at the launch, sharing more stories of his work. Signed copies of the book will also be available to purchase.
Many locals attended a special World Vision lunch at the Bowls Club last winter, where Tony described his method of regreening land by reviving damaged trees rather than planting new ones.
It’s a technique that not only alleviates poverty and soaks up carbon, but also costs almost 36 times less than planting trees from scratch.
This is not some green fantasy, said World Vision President Lynne Kharanda.
“Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) has, from small beginnings, already regreened more than 18 million hectares in 27 countries, reduced our carbon footprint and transformed millions of lives and livelihoods.
“The Forest Underground offers tangible hope for climate change, as well as a deeply moving account of one man’s faith-journey.
“In a seemingly hopeless crisis, this is the good-news story that will move hearts and hands to care for the planet.”
Phillip Island World Vision will provide a delicious afternoon tea.
All funds will be donated for Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration through World Vision.
Tickets are $15. For tickets please contact Krishna Methven 0427 601 689 or Lynne Kharanda 0432 945 204.
