Housing Matters is holding a public meeting –“The Big Housing Build and how to support it”, on Saturday December 4, at the Baptist Church, Wonthaggi from 1pm – 3pm.

Speaking at the event are Jordan Crugnale, State Member for Bass, Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor Michael Whelan, Greg Thompson, Manager of Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre and Iain Ritchie, Manager of Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre.

“Let’s get the show on the road”, said Beth Banks, Housing Matters committee member.

“Homeless people are forced to sleep rough, the housing waiting list is rising while local businesses are have trouble finding staff who can afford to rent in our area.”

“Our meeting will hear from local community members with direct experience of homelessness as well as representatives from local and state government.”
Jessica Harrison from Housing Matters urged people to attend.

“We want as many people as possible to come along so we can put our heads together and come up with the best outcome for the new housing in our area,” said Jessica.

“We were glad to see that the council recently made available some Bass Coast road reserves, and are looking forward to the release of the Bass Coast Shire Council’s Social and Affordable Housing Strategy,” said Beth.

Housing Matters was founded in March 2020 and includes local residents, public housing tenants, architects, social workers and anti-poverty activists.

The public meeting is a COVID-safe event. Proof of double vaccination will be required on entry.
