Island girls win on Mother's Day

On the road to Nar Nar Goon, the girls were keen to get their second win on the board. In perfect football conditions and fielding 14 players the girls came out of the blocks on fire.

Macey Stubbs was strong in the ruck giving the island girls first use of the ball and it wasn't long before Maddy Leed made her presence felt. It was the start of many runs from Maddy who dominated throughout the game, taking numerous bounces and kicking two goals.

Captain Jade Ricardo was the general at centre half back, continually cutting off the Nar Nar Goon attack and driving the ball into the island's forward line.

Giselle Smith and Lily O'Loughlin were working hard around the ground, while Lily "Elbow" Bow was dead straight in front of the goal snagging two early goals from set shots.

As the game continued Gemma Fischer was strong off half back, while Scarlett Rees and Tess Ricardo kept the Nar Nar Goon girls at bay.

Georgia Niven continues to improve, providing great relief for Macey Stubbs in the ruck and putting on some great shepherds for the girls picking up the ball.

In the final quarter Sadie Davies moved forward and took a couple of strong marks, while Miki Leary was instrumental at the stoppages. Tahlia Jessup continued to impress and Kyra Carton moved

down back after a strong performance up the forward, kicking yet another goal.

The girls demonstrated strong link up play on Sunday - 14 girls, playing for four quarters, no bench and warm conditions. Magnificent!

The team thanks all the mums who gave up their Mother's Day to assist.
