Island takes on Inverloch as juniors battle it out - U14 Red
U14 Reds in action against Inverloch in a close game.

After the luxury of a four home games in a row the Under 14s Red Bulldogs had to set the alarm clock early to make the trek over to play the highly skilled and well drilled Inverloch.

As usual there was a breeze favouring the town end of the ground and we used to in the first quarter to our advantage with four scoring shots and controlling the play. A great first quarter effort from Tierlin, Charlie, Max, Chase and Jack who set the scene as we jumped to an eight-point lead at quarter time.

The second quarter saw us needing to defend into the stiff and hard to play in wind.

Leading from the front were Zac, Zane, Silk, and Jacob who have the never give up attitude and it showed. We managed to use our run and carry into the wind to have two scoring shots.

At the long break we found ourselves trailing by nine points. Coach Taz remained positive as always and there was a good feeling among the group.

The third quarter was a real arm wrestle with some great ball movement from both teams. Our big men in Darc and Ollie were giving their all and our ground runners Jemma, Maddie, Bud, Tilley and Jacko were in and under without a fuss.

In an even quarter Invy lead by 14 points.

The last quarter was set to be a ripper and although we were against the wind it felt as if we played our best we were still in the game.

As it has shown in the previous weeks, our fitness is one of our biggest strengths thanks to old man Tilley’s training, and it showed, outscoring Invy in the last quarter.

Some great determination and team things that don’t always get noticed by spectators from Hazza, Sundy, Arch, Jye and Blocker were highlights of the quarter and certainly do get noticed by the coaching staff week in week out.

A great game of footy by both quality sides saw Invy get up by nine points.

Taz was more than happy with the effort and made comment that we are playing the way we are training and coming into some good form at the right end of the season!
