It’s model behaviour

The Phillip Island and District Railway Modellers are holding their annual model train show, on Saturday January 17 and Sunday January 18, at the Senior Citizens Hall in Lions Court, Cowes.
The show always attracts many visitors and caters for everyone from the diehard model railway enthusiast to the budding five-year-old who loves to watch the trains go around.
There will be 16 models to view and two trading stands.
Many of the model layouts have full digital control, authentic sound and range from the small “N” scale, that fit on a door or fold up into a box, up to the very large “G” scale, that would take over the garden.
For the first time, the show includes a model in the relatively new TT120 scale from the Hornby company.
A feature of this year’s show is a magnificent, large ON30 scale model that won “Best in Show” at a recent major Melbourne exhibition.
On Saturday the exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm, and on Sunday 10am to 4pm.
Admission is $10 for adults or $25 per family (two adults and three children) with a $5 charge for extra children (under 15).
“Our club has been established for over 20 years and operates a large, fixed train layout at its club rooms as well as several portable layouts which are used for shows around the state,” a club spokesperson said.
“The club caters for people of all ages and varied interests related to railway modelling.
These include people who just love creating dioramas with a story behind them, those who are interested in creating new models and experimenting with different concepts and those who just want to drive trains around or get engrossed in the electronics that support the models.
“We are always on the lookout for new members, so if you have an interest in model trains or maybe you have a train set at home and just want to see how to get more out of it, consider joining our friendly group and come and ‘play trains’ with us.”
