It's not just humans; wildlife also impacting the island
Wallaby numbers on the Summerland Peninsula have grown by about 750 since the last census a decade ago, to 1227. Possum numbers on the Summerland Peninsula show a "highly abundant" 2.3 per hectare. Cape Barren geese numbers in the past year total 3120 geese, which is 354 more since the 2023 survey.
