Many readers may remember the Bethlehem Spoonville in the grounds of St Philip’s Anglican church last Christmas.

One of the things the congregation noted was the steady stream of people of all ages who wandered across and enjoyed the Covid-inspired installation.

Following on from that success, this year the church has prepared six scenes telling the story of the birth of Jesus.

The installations illustrate the time when the angel first told Mary she was going to have a baby, Mary and Joseph travelling to Bethlehem, where the birth of Jesus and the visits of the shepherds and the wise men took place.

Everyone is invited to come on a “Journey to Bethlehem” – bring  your friends and neighbours to come and have a look as well.

This project was a team effort with Paul Woodford (who painted the murals on the church hall) again adding another painting, along with Fernanda Guimareas who worked on the scenes, and the church is most grateful for their artistic skill.

So, next time you’re in town, come and have a wander and a wonder at the story of Jesus’ birth as you visit the six scenes in the church grounds. After all, this is the real reason for the season.
