Junior cricket Christmas party
Phillip Island and District Cricket Club (PIDCC) hosted their inaugural Junior Christmas Party at the Cowes oval on Sunday
With the games wrapped up for 2020, Phillip Island and District Cricket Club (PIDCC) hosted their inaugural Junior Christmas Party at the Cowes oval on Sunday December 20.
Blessed with fine weather, the event saw participants from the Blasters program (6 to 10 years of age), right through to the Under 16s in attendance.
It was an absolute delight to see the Covid crisis behind us (touch wood) and a large group of excited children enjoying each other's company on the oval.
With the mandatory 40+ player game of cricket on the centre wicket, the day was highlighted with a visit from one of the most dynamic batsmen to grace the field, in PIDCC history.
On a flight across Victoria to a pre-existing engagement, Santa was drawn to the mass hysteria on Cowes oval.
Coming off the back of a solid year's training in his newly developed North Pole Cricket Academy, Santa was up for the challenge. Striding to the wicket, willow in hand, Santa took guard to face the music.

A barrage of fast bowling was no match for the wily veteran, who scored runs at will and provided a laugh for all in attendance.
On a more serious note, the club would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank, Goppi of Subway Restaurant Cowes, for providing fresh, wholesome food for the occasion. Goppi's son Sai plays in the Under 12s for the Island and Goppi was only too kind in offering his support for the event.
The club would like to extend a warm thank you to Goppi and family for their generosity and the club looks forward to working with Subway Cowes into the future.
PIDCC wishes all readers, members and supporters a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
Go Sharks!
