U14 Red
The sun came out and it seemed to warm up just that little bit as the U14 Phillip Island Red’s ran out to face the Inverloch Sea Eagles.
A huge start from Darcy Opitz in the ruck in the first quarter showing everyone he was there to dominate for the rest of the day, pushing it out to our forward-line. But it was quickly sent back to the Invy forward 50 which resulted in a goal by the Inverloch side.
Solid work from the backline leading from Archer Bailey and Brydon Marshall keeping the Inverloch side down to one goal/one point.
The ball slowly made its way back down to Red’s forward-line which resulted in a goal by Jye Larcombe.
The second quarter Darcy smashed it out of the centre to our forward-line, but Invy’s defence was just a little stronger and pushed it back to their 50 resulting in a couple of points and a goal to the Invy side.
It was brought back to the centre where it got a lot more physical with Bailey Parry kicking and tackling like a madman and Bailey Taylor running as hard as he could to get the ball and stop the Invy boys from capitalising.
As half time came round the glare from the sun was almost too much for the PI umpire. Luckily, he had his sleek new sunnies to get him through the remainder of the game.
With Inverloch ahead the PI Reds had a lot of work to do to bring the game back. With great field work from Jack Mascaros and Darcy Opitz – they tried their hardest, but it just wasn’t enough to keep it out of Inverloch’s hands. Every time the backline got it out of the 50 the Inverloch centres were there waiting.
A huge quarter from Archer Cameron and Tierlin Hamley gave the rest of the team hope as they all seemed to lift with their dominant efforts.
Huge defence plays from Zack Hughes and Brydon Marshall kept the Inverloch side down to scoring two points this quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter the pups needed to stand their ground with Tierlin, Felix and Jack not backing down!
Weaving in and out of the Invy players and the rogue Cape Barren geese Max Nicka, Ethan Rhee and Archer Bailey tried the hardest to get the ball down to our forward-line which got Brydon Marshall a late goal in the quarter.
Despite the fight from the pups the Invy side walked away with the win. Final score PI Red: 2-2 (14). Invy: 4-9 (33).
Awarded players: Archer Bailey, Bailey Parry, Jye Larcombe, Felix Bathgate.
A massive congratulations to Jack Mascaros for hitting his 50 games with the PIFNC. Well done!
