Jury deliberates verdict

The jury in the Supreme Court trial for alleged murderer Adrian Basham has retired to consider its verdict.

Today Justice Lesley Taylor gave instruction to the jury on the law and evidence in the case, where Mr Basham is accused of killing the mother of their three children, Samantha Fraser, 38, at her Cowes garage on July 23, 2018.

“It’s not my responsibility to decide this case, that is your role,” she said.

Justice Taylor told the jury to only base their verdict on all the evidence and not jump to conclusions or guess.

“You must ignore feelings of sympathy…you must act like judges, dispassionately weighing the evidence.”

She said the prosecution did not need to prove every fact, but only the essential ingredients needed to be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
