One of Thompson Avenue’s much-loved cypress trees dropped a large branch last week, with the SES advising against parking under the trees if possible.

Drivers and pedestrians were lucky to escape unscathed when one of Thompson Avenue’s much-loved cypress trees dropped a large branch last week in fine weather.

The tree, outside the Cowes post office, is a notorious limb-dropper and Phillip Island SES spokesman Alan O’Connor said trees could “unexpectedly” drop branches even in calm weather conditions, especially if they’ve been stressed during storm events.

He advised to avoid parking under the trees if possible.

“But we understand it’s not always convenient to do that in Cowes main streets,” Alan said.
