Labyrinth walk to welcome the new year

Celebrate New Year’s Eve with a candlelight walk at the San Remo labyrinth, starting at 8pm on December 31.

The New Year’s Eve Candlelight Walk at San Remo is in its fifteenth year on the San Remo Turf Labyrinth.
The event begins at 8pm on December 31, with an Acknowledgement of Country and Reflective Talk. The walk will commence to the sounds of the natural world as the sun is setting across the bay and finish at 10.30pm.
Event Facilitators Jan Miller, Lorraine and Geoff Rodda are Members of the Australian Labyrinth Network Inc.
They invite everyone to walk “in celebration of our Earth, our Continent and our Indigenous People who have lived on our land for 70,000 years”.
“Let us meditate and reflect on this past year with so many twists and turns as we hold in our hearts our loved ones, our community and the peoples, creatures and plants in our global village,” Lorraine said.
“This is a very special way for you to celebrate this New Year’s Eve. If you have not walked a labyrinth before, now is a great time. Often people value witnessing others walk.”
The San Remo Labyrinth combines the imagery of the circle and the energy of the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path.
Lorraine said indigenous cultures use the circle and spiral to illustrate the holistic nature of life and its on-going renewal.
“A labyrinth also relates to wholeness. As we walk a labyrinth on the single path to and from the centre it represents a journey to our own centre and back out to the world with new insights and clarity as we learn to go forward from there.”
Directions: Back Beach Road in San Remo, past the Lions Children’s Park and Picnic Ground, then drive along the unmade section of the road. The Labyrinth is on the right beside a row of cypress trees.
