As I reflect on my time as Mayor, I do so with a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community of Bass Coast Shire.
This role has never been about one person.
It has been about working together, listening to our community, and making decisions that help shape a strong future for Bass Coast.
From the beginning of this council term, there was a clear sense of purpose.
At our very first Council Meeting, Councillors came together unanimously to call for urgent government action on coastal erosion at Inverloch and Silverleaves.
It was an early example of leadership through unity, recognising the importance of protecting homes, public spaces, infrastructure and our coastline.
It showed that when the community needs a strong voice, council can stand together to advocate for meaningful action.
Over this term, we have laid important foundations for the future through long-term planning and strong community engagement.
The Council Plan 2025-2029 has provided a clear direction for where we want to go as a municipality, shaped by community input and grounded in the values and priorities people shared with us.
It reflects the balance we continually strive for, protecting what makes Bass Coast special while planning responsibly for growth and change.
We have also delivered strategies that respond to changing community needs. The Mountain Bike, BMX and Pump Track Strategy recognised the importance of active recreation and creating spaces that appeal to young people, families and riders of all ages.
It provides a long-term vision for recreational facilities across Bass Coast and ensures future investment is guided by community need and careful planning.
The Domestic Animal Management Plan was another important piece of work.
It reflected the many different views within our community about pets, shared spaces, wildlife protection and responsible ownership.
These conversations were not always easy, but they were important.
The process demonstrated council's commitment to listening carefully, weighing competing priorities and working towards balanced outcomes that respect both community wellbeing and our natural environment.
What I am most proud of is the way this council has worked together. Leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room.
It is about listening, staying steady through difficult decisions, and keeping the community at the centre of every conversation.
As many in the community now know, I have recently been preselected as a candidate for the seat of Bass. With that comes the decision to step down as Mayor.
This has not been a decision I have taken lightly, but I believe it is the right time to take the next step in continuing to advocate for the issues that matter deeply to our region.
I will continue to proudly serve as Councillor for Western Port Ward until closer to the election, and my focus remains firmly on local issues and the needs of our community.
Bass Coast deserves strong advocacy at every level, and I hope to continue championing our region with a broader platform while remaining grounded in the values and priorities that make this community so special.
Serving as Mayor has been a privilege, and I am deeply thankful for the trust, support and honesty of our community.
Bass Coast has a strong future ahead, and I leave this role proud of what we have achieved together.
