The Bass Coast South Gippsland NAIDOC Week Indigenous Art Exhibition opened on Saturday.

For the past fifteen years the Bass Coast South Gippsland Reconciliation Group (BCSGRG) has organised an Indigenous art exhibition celebrating NAIDOC Week.

This year the Reconciliation Network joined with the Reconciliation Group to present the exhibition.

The exhibition includes artists from Bass Coast and South Gippsland displaying their work which ranges from paintings, decorated Emu eggs, bicycles and a kayak.

To launch the exhibition at Wonthaggi ArtSpace, a Welcome to Country by Uncle Mick Edwards and a Smoking Ceremony by Shane Clayton was followed by the raising of the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.

The exhibition was officially opened by Dr Margaret Lynn, secretary of the Bass Coast South Gippsland Reconciliation Group.

Although numbers at the opening were limited, due to Covid restrictions, patrons thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition especially being able to chat with the exhibiting artists who were in attendance.

The NAIDOC Week exhibition at the Wonthaggi ArtSpace, 1 Bent Street Wonthaggi, is on display seven days a week from 10am-4pm until July 18.

If you are unable to attend the gallery, you can view the exhibition online at naidoc-art.com.au
