Nature Parks confident no job losses

Phillip Island Nature Parks is confident more than 20 catering staff won’t lose their jobs, after the attraction’s catering company ended its contract.

Caterers Delaware North, who provided food and beverage services at Nature Parks sites for about five years, will finish services mid-year, with an expression of interest (EoI) process closing this month.

PINP spokeswoman Nicole Hill said the EoI was advertised locally and nationally and received wide interest.

“The interview process will now begin with the aim to appoint new caterers by mid-year,” Nicole said.

“Most of the current food and beverage staff live locally to the island and are a skilled team of more than 20 people, who we think any new caterer would want to employ.”

She said Nature Parks had contacted local hospitality owners to submit an EoI.

“In the meantime, we’ll continue providing our food and beverage offering across the Nature Parks.

“Our key focus is ensuring minimal impacts on our business continuity, a smooth transition, and retaining great people.”

PINP board chair Kevin Love said Delaware North had implemented many improvements, especially the elimination of single use plastics.

“The return of international visitors in the coming months will create opportunities for business growth at the Nature Parks and we look forward to finding the right partner to grow with us,” he said.

“The Nature Parks is working with Delaware North to ensure the orderly transition of the food and beverage business including staffing arrangements.”
