New faces and playground as Newhaven Primary returns
There were plenty of smiles for the start of school at Newhaven Primary School. This year’s Prep class, with teacher Rhiannon Hacket, sees the boys outnumber the girls seven to one!

All Newhaven Primary School students and families returned last Thursday.

This year’s Prep class of 17 students has 15 boys and two girls.

“What was in the water that year?,” wondered Principal Sharyne Munday.

As well as welcoming the new students, the school was over the moon about a brand new playground installed over the holidays for the senior students.

“Some of our dads in January removed the old well used and loved playground to be replaced with a newer model thanks to our successful application to the Minor Capital Works Fund in 2020,” Ms

Munday said.

“All students agreed that there had to be a flying fox during the consultative stage as it was much loved by all the students.

“We are now looking at actioning the next phase of playground upgrade with a sensory garden … eighteen months earlier than planned.”

The day began with lots of excited students as they saw the new playground for the first time. “Parents were happy to be back onsite and we loved having them back as they kissed and hugged sons and daughters goodbye.”

New parents were invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and morning tea provided by School Council.

“We are looking forward to a fantastic, uninterrupted year to work with our students and their families,” said Ms Munday.

This term the school will hold its House Swimming Sports, Twilight Athletics Carnival and a Playgroup will start, running each Monday in the large gym.

And it’s not just the students returning to school.

“We can’t wait for our mentors from Hope Church and Rotary volunteers to be back on site supporting our reading and breakfast programs,” said Ms Munday.

“We have missed you all terribly.”
