On Sunday afternoon, September 21, Phillip Island Jazz Club presents Deep South Brass 8 performing at Phillip Island Bowling Club, in Cowes.
This will be the first appearance of Deep South Brass 8.
“They are a high energy, New Orleans influenced band and play a mix of jazz/funk/blues originals and popular covers and we are excited to have them perform at Phillip Island,” said Jazz Club spokesperson Jill Boyce.
“Inspired by the contemporary brass bands of New Orleans, Deep South Brass 8 plays an infectious mix of originals and popular charts.
“With nods to The Big Easy's luminaries of Trombone Shorty, Jon Cleary, Dr John, and the Rebirth Brass Band, Deep South Brass 8's big bold brass also brings a few surprise interpretations of some old favourites.”
Playing in the band will be Neil Gracey: trumpet/trombone/band leader; Matt Dixon: trombone/vocals; Mark Sylvio: trumpet/vocals; Sean Nihill: trumpet/composer; Justin Abicare: alto sax/flute; Jim Glasson: tenor and baritone sax; Andrew Murray: keyboard; and Roy John: drums.
“This promises to be a great afternoon’s entertainment,” said Jill.
“We recommend that you book early if possible which gives us an idea on how many tables and chairs we need for the day.”
Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for visitors
