Come and be a champion for change by joining two national movements and assisting Phillip Island's wildlife.
The Phillip Island Landcare Group has organised a tree planting day on Sunday July 27 from 9.30am - 1pm, at 865 Ventnor Road, in Ventnor.
Phillip Island Landcare is one of thousands of Landcare groups across Australia. Anyone can get involved with this group, which plants hundreds of native, indigenous plants each year at multiple community tree planting days.
One of their tree planting days this year falls on National Tree Day, an Australia wide community tree planting event.
The hosts for this day are Helen and Tim, who moved to Ventnor last year and quickly made plans to restore vegetation on their property and create a habitat for wildlife, and a wildlife corridor with neighbouring properties.
Neighbouring properties include Green Lake across the road, and the adjoining Phillp Island Nature Parks property dubbed 'Summerland farm' beside Swan Lake, set to be revegetated into the future.
This year's plantings form a great wildlife corridor that will be utilised by many species, including Eastern barred bandicoots, birds such as Scarlet robins and Currawongs, as well as echidnas, tortoises, possums and lizards.
Phillip Island Nature Parks and Bass Coast Shire Council have provided subsidies for plants, tree guards, food and advertising to support this community tree planting day.
"Helen and Tim can't do this alone though and need your help," Landcare's Lisa Wangman said.
"Volunteer tree planters are needed for this day from 9.30am to 1pm, on the corner of Back Beach Road and Ventnor Road, with the entrance on Ventnor Road on the left as you go towards the Penguin Parade.
"All tools and equipment for planting are provided. Please bring along your gloves, water bottle and appropriate clothing for the weather (Sturdy boots preferred)."
Registrations are essential for catering to phillipislandlandcare@gmail.com
The day includes morning tea and lunch.
"Come and hang out with a great group of likeminded people, and get the warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing that you will be part of this inspirational community partnership to restore vegetation and create habitat for our local species," said Lisa.
