San Remo laundromat fire

San Remo’s laundromat will be closed for about a month after a fire started in a machine last week.

Floss Gorsuch, who owns The Wash Shop laundromat on Marine Parade, said the blaze started about 3pm last Monday and she was now waiting on assessors to determine the cause.

“Thankfully no one was hurt but unfortunately all our machines are damaged as they have all been affected by fire and/or water,” Floss said.

“We are so devastated for our loyal customers who support us all year round, and the inconvenience this has caused so many to find alternate services.”

Floss said they were closed and “unsure of the exact time frame” they would reopen, “but it is estimated to be around four to six weeks.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to our wonderful community who helped with the fire, supported us after the fire, sent all the kind messages, and to all our local businesses and the CFA that came to our aid on the day.”

A CFA spokesperson said five fire trucks responded to the blaze on February 14, with volunteer firefighters from Phillip Island, San Remo and Wonthaggi brigades.

The spokesperson said the fire started just after 3pm and was extinguished by 4.10pm.
