When you speak to people about the Royal Children’s Hospital, most will tell you that their kids or someone close to them have had the need for their services.
All children deserve nothing less than the lifesaving care and ground-breaking research taking place at The Royal Children’s Hospital.
The problem is all this care and expertise comes at a huge cost and that’s where events like San Remo’s Walk for the Kids become so important.
Elyse Pratt, from the San Remo Hotel, and her team of volunteers spend many months organising The Walk for the Kids each year with 100 per cent of the entry fee going to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
Elyse started the Walk for the Kids fundraiser eight years ago, and Craig Edmonds, of Jim’s Bait and Tackle, and the San Remo Trader’s Association has since come on board to assist with the event as well.
There is also much appreciated support from the local CFA, SES, Bass Coast Shire Council and IGA with huge support from South Coast Bus Lines, who have donated all the shuttle buses that will be used for the day.
And there are many other volunteers that work to make the day a success.
Choose which walk!
There are two walks planned to cater for fitness levels and time available, and participants can choose between them or do both, if they so desire. 100 per cent of all entry fees goes to the Good Friday Appeal
Walk 1
Walk 1 is an 8km stretch from Kilcunda to the Punch Bowl along the beautiful George Bass Coastal Walk, on natural ground along the cliff tops. Courtesy buses will take participants from the San Remo Hotel to the starting point at Kilcunda, from 9am; and then return them to San Remo from the Punch Bowl.
There are first aid stations along the route. This walk is along uneven ground and sand which can be difficult for those with mobility issues and prams.
Walk 2
The San Remo town walk follows a leisurely 5km trail. This walk starts and finishes at the San Remo Hotel and has been designed with families in mind. The majority of the walk is on footpaths and hard surfaces so it is easy for those with prams and mobility issues.
The town walk is more than just a stroll, however. When you register you will be given a sheet with trivia questions to answer as you go. It’s a bit of fun with a couple of rest stops for the kids. Once you arrive back to the San Remo Hotel, drop your answers into the box for a chance to win an Easter pack. Trivia sheets need to be in by 2pm.
Registrations
Registrations open at the San Remo Hotel from 8am on Good Friday April 2. Entry forms are available beforehand at Jim’s Bait and Tackle; and the San Remo Hotel. Shuttle buses for Walk 1 start at 9am. The San Remo Town Walk can be done any time from 9.30am but needs to be completed by 2pm to go into the draw for the Easter Hamper.
