Not so trivial – thousands raised for Growing Cambodia

The island community came together for a fantastic night of fun and fierce competition at the Growing Cambodia Trivia Night earlier this month.

The evening ended up raising $29,278.25 for the charity founded by Steven Davie and his family.

“It was a truly amazing result,” said Steven, on behalf of the Growing Cambodia committee.

"We cannot adequately express our immense gratitude for the ongoing generosity of our supporters and the local community.

“With record numbers for both attendance and our auction items the amount raised was the best result we have ever achieved,” he said.

“The venue at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort was packed to capacity with 246 supporters and was again the perfect place to gather.

“It was humbling to see so many people come together and have a great time while donating to our cause.”

The amount raised will help Growing Cambodia continue to provide free English lessons for over 750 students in schools in four rural Cambodian villages.

Ten university students will be able to continue their courses and 60 disadvantaged  primary and secondary school students can continue to attend government schools.

“In addition we will be able to provide additional tertiary courses for the Class of 2024 with 10 Tertiary Patrons committing on the night to fund this initiative and a further two signing up this week,” Steven said.

Steven said there were many supporters to thank for the success of the evening.

“I’d like to thank LJ our compere who made the evening so much fun and the Phillip Island Adventure Resort for providing the venue and their assistance.

“Thanks to Ash for his brilliant poetry, Pam for sharing her insights on our work and how our supporters are all helping make a change and Warren for his countless hours in organising the venue, putting the videos together and thinking up some Trivia questions,” Steven continued.

“We also must thank Jason Cameron our Major Auction auctioneer, and Sigrid and Krystal for putting the videos and slides together, and the Advertiser for its continued support.

“Plus our very kind and very creative stall volunteers who make various items and then donate all proceeds to Growing Cambodia: Fiona, Martin, Elisa, Nyree and Lisa.

“And last and certainly not least all our donors of auction items and raffle prizes.”
