OLSS victorious in districts
OLSS recently won its first ever U12 and U13 team sport Grand Final at the school districts level.
Our Lady Star of the Sea (OLSS) recently won its first ever U12 and U13 team sport Grand Final at the school districts level.
Being a new school with relatively small numbers, OLSS has often sent students to interschool sporting competitions, however typically had to play on other schools' teams - not anymore!
OLSS now have the numbers to organise full sports teams, with soccer being one of their first competitions.
Last year they sent their first soccer team off to districts. As it was their first year, they were placed in the non-competitive B pool. However, OLSS did so well, that they won all their games. This planted the seed ... could they join the A pool?
With a dream of playing in the A competition, the soccer team practiced every lunchtime (as soon as cricket season was over).
When the day finally arrived, OLSS won all their A level games and made it into the Grand Final against Bass Valley.
The game was so close that it went into overtime. Everyone was exhausted. But OLSS gathered their efforts once more.
With only two minutes to go, a corner kick from Sebastian had more spin than Beckham, and drifted towards goal. With a simple jump and nod of the head from Edie, the ball landed in the net.
The cheers sent flocks of cockatoos into the air. It was a huge moment.
After two more minutes of a full onslaught from the opposition, OLSS survived and won!
