Experts from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute are holding an online information session about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines for children.

Experts from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute are holding an online information session about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines for children.

Parents are invited to join the session on Thursday, April 7 at 6pm, so they can make the best choice for their family.

The session is aimed at parents and carers of 5–11-year-olds living in the Gippsland region, along with their families and friends.

The session will cover:

  • An overview of the COVID-19 vaccine recommendations and information about vaccine safety and effectiveness
  • Q&A session where you can ask the speakers any questions you have about COVID-19 vaccines
  • Advice on how to discuss COVID-19 vaccines with other people who may have concerns

The information in this session has been developed by A/Prof Margie Danchin and Dr Jessica Kaufman, along with other experts from the Collaboration on Social Science and Immunisation (COSSI) and are delivered in partnership with the Victorian Department of Health and Latrobe Health Assembly.

Vaccine experts and speakers for the session are Associate Professor Margie Danchin and Dr Jessica Kaufman.

Associate Professor Margie Danchin is Group Leader, Vaccine Uptake at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. Margie is an immunisation expert, and her research focuses on vaccine confidence and uptake, particularly amongst high risk-groups and in low and middle-income countries, and on effective risk communication. In Australia, she is the chair of the Collaboration on Social Science in Immunisation (COSSI) Group and is an expert advisor to ATAGI.

Dr Jessica Kaufman is Research Fellow, Vaccine Uptake at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. Jessica is an editor and author with the Cochrane Consumers and Communication review group, which publishes systematic reviews on health communication and participation interventions.
